This range of capacitors has been designed for total reliability in service to detect the presence or absence of trains on rail tracks providing signallers with essential train movement. The capacitor is multi-sectioned with switched capacitance tappings, incorporating protective resistors, all contained within a rigid polycarbonate case meeting IP67 rating. The essential dielectric system is hermetically sealed, encapsulated within polyurethane resin. Switched variable capacitance multi-element styles.

The basic principle behind the track circuit lies in the connection of the two rails by the wheels and axle of locomotives and rolling stock to short- out an electrical circuit. The capacitors and associated electrical equipment provide fail-safe operation with the circuit being designed to indicate the presence of a train when failure occurs. These track circuits provide railway signallers with systems that operate semi-automatically by displaying signals for trains to slow down or stop in the presence of occupied track ahead of them.

The capacitors are totally protected utilising state-of-the-art dielectric systems.
