    Energy Discharge Capacitors ~ introduction

    Introduction

NCL is a leading manufacturer of energy storage and pulsed energy discharge capacitors.

We have the expertise derived from many years of experience in designing capacitors for the power electronics market and have put this to good effect in our range of pulsed discharge capacitors.

These capacitors are designed to meet exacting criteria of duty, from 100 to over 1 million pulsed operations under extremely controlled conditions, where energy of up to 100kJ per capacitor is achieved.

The advanced technology adopted by the company ensures the highest energy density possible, commensurate with the dielectric system adopted.

NCL high energy storage capacitor are generally constructed using steel containers fitted with composite material low profile terminals suitable for voltages up to 40kV dc and able to meet very high peak discharge currents. Ceramic, multi-shed terminals are also available to satisfy voltage requirements of up to 150kV dc. .

The metal cased units are provided with four ground plane connection bosses set flush with the capacitor lid, adjacent to the terminals and which also serve a a means of lifting the unit.

Because of the very specialised nature of these products, no 'standard' range exists. In order to match your requirements with an existing design, or to undertake a design study for you, we would need the following information as a minimum:-

    • Total energy required
    • Capacitance value
    • Charge voltage
    • Time voltage held before discharge
    • Voltage reversal
    • Peak current
    • Pulse-width and shape
    • Inductance requirements
    • Pulse repetition rate
    • Lifetime expectancy
    • Any dimensional constraints

Please contact us so that we can discuss your requirements more fully.
